Last Day in Grade 5!
What an amazing year with truly awesome people. There are changes ahead for all of us.....our Grade 5s are leaving our school to move on to middle school and I will be teaching Grade 1 next year! When I announced my grade change to my class, a student said, "You will be great with the little ones, but you better get some Grade 1 jokes, they're never going to get your Grade 5 jokes!" I will have to add that to my summer to-do list.
This year has been filled with lots of laughter, fun and learning. I want to thank everyone for making it so special. The students warmed my heart as I saw them showing kindness to others, working out problems, and being excited about their learning. Thank you to the parents for the continuous support and encouragement throughout the year. It is a privilege to work with your children every day. I will miss teaching with my grade partner, Ms Wasney, who has become a close friend. We will still be doing many things together at BHS so that is a bonus!
As a student said as we were waiting for the bell, "It's the last day of Grade 5 for all of us, even Mrs. Tresoor!" This is true, which means I will be signing off on this blog since I can't figure out how to make "5T Room 30" work when I will be teaching Grade 1 in room 2. Thanks to those of you who have visited and commented on our blog. We really appreciated knowing our learning and adventures were being shared with others.
Have a safe, fun-filled summer everyone!! I will keep you posted on the new blog with my Grade 1s.

Grade 5 Farewell
Today we had our farewell for the grade 5s leaving our school. It was an exciting time to spend with family and friends. Thanks to everyone for coming out to share in this special day with us. It is hard to believe that the year has already flown by. We are so proud of all of you and what you have accomplished during your time at BHS. We know you will continue to do great things. Here is a video of some of the highlights from our celebration. Thanks Ms Wasney for sharing your photos!

Field Day!
Today we had field day. It is for the whole day.
In the morning the grade 5s ran the stations, and in the afternoon the grades
6s run them. There are 30 stations. I ran the mat maze with Alyssa and Brenda. Today
it only rained a bit. My favourite station was long rope skipping. We did all our stations in the afternoon. It was best day ever!!!!!

Variety Showcase and Cross Grade Activity
We had a Variety Showcase yesterday. I played my
guitar, Mikayla played the piano and Hailey did her hoops routine. I had to
practice a lot. I played the song Dirty Deeds. We had to play in front of the
whole school and the parents. I felt a little bit scared. I think I did good.
All the performances were really good.

Our whole school read with their little buddies
yesterday. We had popsicles first and then we read. My little buddy read
Fantastic Planet. We read with our buddies a lot. My buddy has improved so
much. I can tell just by the books she is reading.

A Grade 5 Reflection
Wow what an amazing year in 5T I don’t know where to start. There are so many things I enjoyed about 5T but one of my favourites is the smartboard. The smartboard is so cool you can do almost anything with it. We suggested they make smartpapers. Another thing I liked about 5T is being able to pick our own jobs. I have never been able to pick my job before because usually you just get put on a random job and rotate every week. This year we also got to choose the names for our jobs. The last thing I will mention is switching seating plan every month. I also liked the fact that the students got to pick the plan. Our seating plan was different every month. There are so many more things I can talk about but I don’t have the time.
My favourite memory of grade 5 is pretty funny. If you don’t know I DON’T LIKE SHOES. So when I finished my first expert project and Mrs. Tresoor asked me if I was going to wear my shoes for the presentation. So I said of course I will it’s an occasion. But then Mrs. Tresoor asked if I would wear fancy shoes so I said I’m not going that far with this shoe thing. Now most of the time I wear my shoes.
Mrs. Tresoor has taught me a lot this year. These are some things that I never knew about. One of the things I learned was voice tone can mean a lot and how to be kind to everyone. She has also taught me a lot of things I can use in normal life. Like math and other skills.
I am looking forward to a lot of new experiences next year. I am looking forward to going to Robert Andrews. I am looking forward to lockers and different teachers. Also being able to do band. I am looking forward to so much I can’t explain. Good bye grade 5. I will miss Mrs. Tresoor.

T.W.A.S.
This week we did a lot we had a field trip to the science
Gallery at the museum. We started with a presentation on chemical and physical
changes they used super-duper science powder. It dry’s liquid and makes it a
solid. It was a really fun field trip because we were free to do the stuff that
we wanted. We could wander around the whole thing and do anything in the gallery.
It was really fun.
We also did this art with the art teacher Mrs. Kulyk. We
worked with an interesting art materiel. The material was clay and that was a
really neat thing. My clay pot looked like a unicorn got blended together with
a tellatubby. I liked it is for my dad to hold his pens in. That it is why it
is shaped like a cave.
We are doing all kinds of poems. They are really fun. We
did limericks. Those are the most fun poems that I think we have done yet. I
also liked the list poem that one is really fun.
We started our design projects. We have to make something
that will protect you from the sun. Most people are making hats. That is the easiest
thing to do so that is what I will do but it will be different.
Most people are almost done there expert projects. I still
have to find pictures and type the information. Then I have to put it all
together. I think that it will be really good.

Working with Clay
We worked with Mrs. Kulyk on an art project
using clay. The first step was getting a chunk of clay and squishing it into a
ball. We had to put our thumb inside the ball and move it around to make a
bigger hole so it would look like a pot or bowl. There were tools to use to add
designs. You had to use some water to smooth it out and to attach pieces to the
clay. If you use too much water it will turn to mud. After we were done making the pots they are going to go to the kiln at
Robert Andrews School to be fired. When they are done they will look reddish
and be solid as cement. We can’t wait to see them. They will look so amazing! They will be special gifts for .........?

Science Gallery Field Trip
Today our class went on a field trip to the
Manitoba Museum. We had a great time learning about science and
having fun playing the amazing little science games. First we went into a room
behind the curtain, we learned about chemical and physical changes! The guy
that was helping us was named Sean. He showed us some neat experiments… One of
them involved a diaper! Also one of them involved a rocket, sort of… After that we got to explore the science
gallery! Two of the things me and Brooke liked were… I liked the Mirror maze/room.
Brooke liked the movie maker. There are two other things I liked were the
pulley chairs and the space simulator etc. It was super fun!

Manitobans with the opportunity to observe each year’s family of Peregrines on
the Falcon Cam. The #CBCFalconCam
is also fully equipped with audio so your classroom can follow all of the
sights and sounds of the falcons.
Log on to here from
now until the end of July to watch our live Falcon Cam and add your comments.

French Skits
This week we did French skits. I love doing skits but I don’t
really like French because it is hard to pronounce and understand words. But I had
a really fun time doing it. Karlee was my partner for the skit. We did not
practice much but I think our pronunciation was good. I made a bunch of scripts
for Karlee and I. The props we had were:
A black serving plate, a black apron, a BLT, a bill holder, a take home
box and a purse with a duck tape wallet. Other kids used a clip board, and fake
sandwiches and real sandwiches and sandwiches made out of paper. I think
everybody did really well. I think the preparation for the food was the hardest
because I had to go to Jonseys in the morning and make one because I forgot to make
it the night before. Everybody’s French skit was so different and so cool.
I tried to memorize the script as much as I could. I wonder
how many kids tried to memorize the script like I did.
How did you practice? I practiced with my mom by doing the
whole script.

T.W.A.S.
This week at school we had fun let me tell you
all about our week. First we had gym. We played soccer baseball. I didn’t get any strikes. I almost got a
homerun if I was first or maybe even second.
Also we had a special assembly done by the grade
1s. I saw Ethan the hug monster and then Cayden the one who thinks of me as his
mama. Then I saw Rylan my best little bud. It was cute when the little kids
spelled volunteers. One of the kids got in the wrong spot at first but then got
in there spot.
For my ep I’m doing the bird eagles. I’m almost ready to present. I have been using Smore. And I have been helping the kids who are new to smore.
Also we made a flower out of paper. Cayden mostly
made it. I let him read to me after. The flowers we made were given to the
volunteers after. How I know is I saw one in ms Gregg’s room. I hope you had a
good week.

Rainbow Loom Expert Project
There was
another Expert project presentation this week! This time it was on Rainbow
looms. Leah did this expert project and it was quite interesting because the
rainbow loom things are very common. Most people know what they are but they
don’t all know much information about them. For example who invented them? It
was this guy who was from Malaysia and he made it because his daughters had
made these rubber band bracelets on their fingers. Then he made a little
prototype of the rainbow loom board with wood and nails. That sparked the idea
of the rainbow loom.
The project
was very interesting. It was done on PowerPoint. There were lots of pictures
which I liked. A suggestion I have is to put in more information and that is
one thing that I would recommend changing for next time. Good job Leah!
Peacemaker Recognition
Congratulations to Jordan and Andrew for being selected as Peacemakers of the month for April. It is great to see students at BHS doing their part to make a difference for others. Thanks to all students and staff who contribute to making our school a better place to be!

Handbell Ringers
Today we had a handbell presentation. The presentation was in the music room after lunch. All the grade 5s, 6s and my sister saw it. Why did my sister see it? Because our Grandma was in it! Since my Grandma was in it, I’ve seen them practice before. The performance was about 45 minutes long.
The handbells that they use are $35,000! That’s VERY expensive! Every bell was made of
brass. They also have to keep them in a BIG case. Everybody was wearing gloves
because if they don’t the oily stuff in your hands can damage the handle of the
bell. They also wore rainbow scarfs from Guatemala. The money went towards
buying stoves for people who don’t have one in Guatemala.
The presentation was really neat. I hope they can come back
again one time!!!

This week at school we had gym. In gym we played
a basketball game. In the morning before school I’m in basketball club. We have
to meet at 8:30 am. When I got there we practiced dribbling around the gym. Then
we had a basketball game it was fun. Next week we have a tournament.
Today we had rooftop photos. A roof top photo is
where the whole school goes out to the front of the school. The photographer climbs onto the roof and
takes a couple of pictures of the school. Then we went back to class. In library I took out two books. One was about BMX bikes. The other one was on dirt bikes. On the book about BMX bike a guy was doing flat land BMXING I might try it.in the dirt bike book when they race it looks dangerous!
This week we wrote poetry. In poetry I started to write an acrostic poem on my leopard gecko but I didn’t finish it. I also wrote one about me. After I shared it with Jerrett. It was a good week.

T.W.A.S.
This week at school we had choir. It was fun. I
liked singing. We are singing a song. I don’t know what it is called. I got a
sucker for winning music bingo.
We also had read to self. I am reading magazines
called Bmx plus. There are pro Bmxers. It is cool. I like the magazines and
there are always handle bar grips and a whole bunch of frames for sale.
We had expert projects. It is awesome. I am
learning more about quads. I have my own quad. I ride quads a lot. They cost so
much money for a new one.
We had gym. We played basketball tag. I like
playing regular basketball better because you get to shoot at the hoops. I
didn’t join basketball club because I can’t get to school early enough for
practices.

Special Olympics Expert Project
Today we had
our first expert project presentation by Hailey! It was on Special Olympics. I never
realized how many events there were. She had lots of ribbons, Wow! I wonder how
many ribbons she will have in a couple years? Hailey did so well speaking she
said lots of big words like competition, intellectual and rhythmic gymnastics. Did you
know that: Special Olympics is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals
with an intellectual disability through active participation in sport. In total
there are eighteen sports in Special Olympics. Hailey participates in hoop, ball, ribbon, and rope. This
is the athlete’s oath “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the
attempt.” Great job Hailey!

BHS is 100 Years Old
Wow what an
amazing 100th anniversary we had. I can’t believe our school is 100
years old. We had a HUGE anniversary. There were two choirs. There was a boys’
choir and girls’ choir. Both choirs sang 1 song. There was a BIG party after
the performances were done.
There also were jobs some people had to do at a certain time. I got to be (greeters at the front door) it was funny because I was with Mikayla. For my job I had to hold the door for people when they were leaving. I would also say bye and then sometimes I would ask them a question like “did you like the performance?” I really like my job.
There was also a guy that came his name was Aaron Burnett and he was a musical entertainer. There also was a photo booth. Ms. Wasney’s sister Leah ran it. I went in two times. There was a display in the library with facts and pictures about our school. It was amazing to see how many people came. Thank you everyone who came to our 100th anniversary celebration!

Shhhhhhhh......We are Silent
On Thursday we participated in the we are silent campaign. At
first we thought it was going to be kind of easy but we thought wrong. It was
really hard to do. We tried to stay quiet for the day but we found it quite difficult.
We bought some tags for $1 and if you look closely at the picture you will see shhhhhhh
all over the sign in handwriting. It’s important for us to participate because
some people don’t have a voice to speak up for themselves. We raised $601.94 for
trying to make a school in Nicaragua. This is a great way to show other people
that we care about trying to make sure everyone gets an education.

This is a neat way to share ideas. It is great to see how kindness is being shown in our classroom. Remember to stand up for respect and to choose kindness.
