T.W.A.S.

Dear Mom and Dad,
This week at school our class had a lot of fun. I think that the most fun thing the class did was our gingerbread characters. Everybody had a piece of wood cut out like a gingerbread person. After we all got a piece of wood we painted both sides a shade of brown. There were two colours to choose from. One was a dark brown and one was a light brown. But they both looked good. After we painted them we waited till the next day to add details to them. When we finally got to add our details, everybody made an amazing gingerbread person. It was also really great because everybody’s gingerbread character was unique and interesting. Some had hair others had dresses and some had hats. But overall, everybody’s gingerbread person looked great! And our class would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Loewen for cutting all the wood.
My 2nd favourite thing this week was our gym class. Our gym class was outside in the snow. Unfortunately we had to lie down a lot so I got really wet. But it was still really fun. For warm-up we ran across the field. After warm-up we did relay races. It was boys vs. girls for the races. Both of the races included either lying down or crawling. So lots of people were soaked. The first race we had to play lying down leapfrog. And on the 2nd race we had to crawl under each other’s legs. I thought it was a really great class. The girls won one of the races and the boys won one. But according to the boys, the boys won both of the racesL. Anyways, I thought everyone enjoyed it.
My 3rd favourite thing this week was our science. In science, we finished and edited our 5 pages of information. I am studying droughts. For my 5 pages, I did information, devastation, safety plan, interesting facts, and a glossary. Some people did other pictures that they couldn’t leave out and others did a glossary. But everyone had to do the other 4 (information, devastation, safety plan, and interesting facts). Science is definitely my favourite subject and wish that this unit would never end. But I know it will.
And finally, my 4thfavourite thing. My 4th favourite thing was the Christmas concert. Our class wasn’t in the Christmas concert because it was only kindergarten to grade 4. It was really fun to be in the concert but I can live without it. I thought it was really awesome watching all of the little kindergartens. They are so cute and fun to watch. I think everybody loved it. We watched the dress rehearsal for the concert but I think it was probably just as good as the concert. I thought the grade 4 students were great with playing the recorders. Better than me anyways. I can barely play “Hot Cross Buns”. Fail! I really enjoyed the concert and I hope we get to watch it next year too.
Love, Dana J
I did this blog on the amazing netbooks. They are so great!

ApplettersTM  is a game some students have been playing during Word Work in Daily 5. It is like dominoes, but you connect letters instead of dots.

Penguins with Personality

We made penguins that are displayed on the main bulletin board. The penguins are very unique and have a lot of personality. We hope that you will see the great art work made by many students in our school. Thanks to Ms. Wasney for organizing the winter display!
(Close up photos of our penguins are posted on Artsonia.)

This week at school.............
This week we did health and in health we had to do one page in our booklet. The page was about how to be safe and if you should tell secrets or keep secrets. Then when we were done we played this hacky sack game. In the game you get a ref and get two chairs then you put the two chairs in front of you as a net. Then you make an out of bounds. So then you hit the hacky sack back and forth then if someone drops it or hits it out of bounds the other person gets a point and you play up to five. We also have a ladder in the ladder you have to challenge the person ahead of you and if you win you take their spot then if you’re in the top five you get a prize.
This week in art we made penguins for the main bulletin board. We made them with paper and we got an orange paper a black paper and a white paper. The orange piece of paper was for the feet and the nose and if you wanted to make a hat that was orange or whatever. The black paper was for the penguin body we had to draw it out before we cut it out. The white piece of paper was for the belly.  Some people made signs that said go Jets go and go Bombers go. I went to go look at all the penguins on the bulletin board and they looked really cool. All the penguins are on art Sonia
This week in math I played a game called multiplication war. In multiplication war you have to flip down two cards and you multiply them then the person with the highest number wins. But if you tie you have to do war. In a war you have to both flip down three cards and then you flip down two cards and the other person flips down to cards also then the highest number wins. When you win you get all the cards.
This week in science we did our research. I did global warming I picked global warming because of what happen in Churchill with the polar bears. Global warming is when the gases goes up in the air and forms a layer that keeps in heat .The gases are from all the planes and cars burning off fuel. The polar bears in Churchill are affected because the sea ice is not freezing so the can’t get seals and food.
I hope you like reading my T.W.A.S J

Snowflake Art

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Netbook Computers

The netbook computers are a big hit. We have been using them in our classroom for publishing our writing, researching topics and working on projects. We even used them with our Little Buddies in Mrs. Kohut's class to make a web on Kidspiration. It sure is great to be able to wheel the fleet of netbooks into our room or to sign them out individually as needed.
