T.W.A.S.

Wow what a great 4 day week at school. We had no school on Monday. It was report card writing day for the teachers.

Science gallery walk
Rocks and Rings
The next day we did gym. In gym we did rock and rings unit. The teacher’s name is Liz. We did curling. We had to sweep and throw the rocks. I did good at sweeping. It was fun to throw the rocks. I did not get it in the rings.

In science we did a gallery walk to show our science projects. We showed them to Ms Wasney’s class. Then we got to see theirs. Theirs were cool and they liked ours too. Our project worked a few times.

Stop drop and read!
We had a stop drop and read day. It was awesome to do. I love reading. I am good at reading. We had it when we were in the computer lab writing TWAS.

Science Design Projects

Our forces and motion design projects are AWESOME! Some of them are big and some are small. This design needed to set a marble in motion with no hands, have potential and kinetic energy, have linear, oscillating, rotational or reciprocating motion and come to a complete stop every time. It also needed change speed and direction. The projects needed to be built with recycled materials at school. For example, you could use toilet paper rolls and cardboard. There were so many steps to make them. Everybody was working hard to complete their projects. These projects took about a week to be done. Our class got to go to the other grade 5 class to see their projects and their class came to ours to see our projects. Their projects were so cool. Now that we are done testing, someone will have to take the project home. The best part of the project was building it and designing it, because I like to build stuff and design. Some people had to make a lot of changes, and that’s what good designers do. We also had to say what our design could be used for in real life.

T.W.A.S.

This week we went to festival du voyager (AMAZING TRIP). As soon as we got there the first thing I saw was a mini donut stand, and really cool ice sculptures. The first stop we made was a bonfire. There was a boy and a girl there talking about how maple sap was made, and how maple sap was discovered. After that we went to another bonfire and there was 2 boys talking about how they got the sap out of the tree and more about how sap was made into syrup. Next we went to a maple taffy tent (the tent was not made out of taffy) there was taffy making inside the tent. When we went inside there was a big long table with snow on the top. Then a man would poor maple syrup and let it cool for a second and then you would put your stick on the side and roll it up and then you have taffy on a stick. I liked mine but it was not my favourite. Then we went to shop in a big tent. There were so many little places inside the tent to shop. I got mom a wooden bracelet and Jo got her mom a matching one too. Me and Jo got matching infinity rings. We also bought food. Festival was so fun wish I could go back!

This week we had a…. MATH TEST. The math test was not that hard. It was about estimation. We learned about front end rounding, compatible numbers and compensation.  Here is an example of front end rounding:  354+ 250+79
300+200+70 = 570   so it would be about 570. Front end rounding is not always accurate.

This week we also had to work on our French book. We are making mini French books. It’s so cool because you don’t need tape. The books are about what sports you and your friends like or don’t like. We made a book similar to this last year.

This week we also had library. I took out a horse book. Jolene gave me and Karlee a horse test. During library STOP-DROP-AND- READ music came on and Hailey started dancing in the middle of the library. Jolene took a random book from Karlee and I just read a random book.

Happy Valentine's Day.

T.W.A.S.

This week we had days that we did a lot of design project and we had days where we did a real lot besides design project. On Monday we did a science page called simple machines. I found it really easy because the machines that they listed were all things that I had used. Like pulleys and levers and inclined planes they also had a screw so that one was really easy. The only thing that we had to do was identify them. The pictures of the machines could have been drawn better but I guess it was alright. I did very well.

Another thing that we did this week was that all the grade 5s went to Robert Andrews School to look at the band program. My brother does band and I think that I will do band to. The band there played a whole half hour concert for us. I liked it. My brother plays the euphonium it is really a mini tuba that’s noise is a little bit higher. I don’t know what I will play.

Another big thing that happened this week was the big art installation in the main hallway. We took the native art that we did and we glued it to the wall that is basically what they did. They are at different depths so you can’t run your hand along the wood blocks that the art is made on. The art that the class did was print making and I did a muskrat.

The last thing that I am going to write about is the fit a thon. In my group I had Jordan and Andrew they are both fast runners.  I think that my group did a lot more than we said because we were in it for the running not for the laps. We were trying to pick up a popsicle stick every lap we did my group really didn’t do that. We kept forgetting.

T.W.A.S.

Go Canada Go!
Our Assembly hosts, Jacqueline and Nicholas
Our new February attendance
Hailey with her T.W.A.S.
Enjoying the music
It was Hailey's turn to write our blog post today. We had a busy  four day week. Today we went to the gym for an assembly hosted by the grade 5's. We celebrated the hard work of our school patrols and peacemakers. S.P.I.N. Club members spoke about the money we have raised so far and they also told us about the We are Love and We Create Change campaigns. To kick off the 2014 Olympic games, we learned about all the events being held in Sochi. A video of highlights from the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver was shown. We all sang Go For the Gold to end our assembly.  What a great way to start our day!
