Earth Day Collages

For Earth Day we made Earth Day collages. The collages were about something that is important to our earth or something we love about our earth. It was so fun to make the art. To make the art we used all recyclable materials, like fabric, buttons, felt and newspaper. It was cool to see all the different designs and things people were doing. Mine was a flower with a worm and buttons at the bottom to look like rocks. With newspaper I cut out the letters to spell “save our earth”. It was so great to see all the wonderful things we love about are earth. The earth is in our hands! So let’s take care of it! You can see more of our collages on Artsonia  - Abby M.

Happy Earth Day!

On Thursday we decided to help clean up the playground with our Little Buddies. Everyone did a great job chipping in to pick up the litter that didn't find its way into the garbage cans. I have to say our playground looks terrific. Thanks for all the help in taking care of our school yard.

Spring Concert

We have a choreographer in our school for the concert this year. Her name is Brenda Gorlick. She taught us 3 different dances. They were: keep on dancing by Bay City Rollers, We Will Rock You by Queen and Thriller by Michael Jackson. Personally U Can’t Touch This was my favourite.

I got picked to be in Thriller and so did Cameron. I was very happy that I got picked. But it gets so hot in there. There are lots of other songs that people dance to. Here they are: Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend by Marylyn Monroe, Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley, Ring Of Fire by Johny Cash, Hard Day’s Night and Hey Jude by the Beatles. Coat of Many Colors by Dolly Parton, Beat it by Michael Jackson, U Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer, Wanabee by the Spice Girls, Man I Feel Like a Woman by the Shania Twins, Hit the Lights by Selena Gomez and Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga.

We had practiced the concert a few times about 5 or 6 times. First time we practiced in front of the grade ones. The second time it was again in front of the grade ones. The third and fourth times we did it by ourselves. And the fifth and sixth time we did it by ourselves and then Ms. Wasney's class came in to see some of our practice. In the morning on April 18 we did it for the whole school. At 2 o’ clock there was one of the shows I felt kind of nervous but not really. I felt I did pretty good on stage because I was in front. But at the 6:30 concert I wasn’t nervous at all.

Health

D.A.R.E teaches children about Drugs, Alcohol, Cigarettes, Tobacco, Marijuana and how bad it is. It stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.  The person who teaches us is a police officer, his name is Dave. He taught us these three topics already. They are called Cigarettes, Tobacco, and Marijuana. Right now we are learning about Alcohol. So far I have learned that all of these are bad for parts of your body and can make you die or go in a coma. I will not do any of these drugs and I hope you don’t too. I think it is good we are learning about this so children don’t do these types of things. D.A.R.E’s mascot is a tiger wearing a black shirt that says D.A.R.E in red on the t-shirt.

Artist in the School

After spring break we’ve had an artist in the school. Her name is Brenda Gorlick and she is a choreographer. She has been teaching us dances for our spring concert. So far she has taught us two dances. One is by The Bay City Rollers keep on dancing. And the other one is we will rock you. They’re both very fun. My favourite one is we will rock you. It’s fun and easy to learn. Of course we all know the beginning of the dance you stomp you’re feet and clap your hands eight times then do all the other dance moves. Keep on dancing is fun too. We learned that one pretty quickly. There are three moves the monkey jerk, the train and mashed potato pony. We all got numbered 1 to 3 and whatever number she gave us that would be the one we’ll be doing. And I heard we were going to have to be wearing funny outfits. And our music teacher said we might have to wear kilts. I probably won’t look good in a man skirt. Oh well I’ll just have to go along with it. But our music teacher is having trouble trying to find kilts. She said she wanted green kilts. Not red. I wonder why she didn’t want red. I’ll have to ask her later. I just remembered we also danced to thriller. That was fun to and I know we all know how it starts. You’re on the floor and then you come up and you act like a zombie then you walk like a zombie and you know the rest.  It’s really fun doing all of those dances and Brenda Gorlick does a good job on helping all of the classes learn how to dance. Even if they already know how to dance it’s always fun to learn new dances. Mrs. Gorlick is doing a good job and I say to her thanks for all the help. Our spring concert is on the 18th so we don't have a lot of time before show time. When I dance it makes me feel free. I enjoy dancing and I’m pretty sure a lot of people do to.  I can't wait to perform our dances. Here is a video of us practicing.

Wear Pink!

The International Day of Pink

On April 11 we had the International Day of Pink. We had it because every year on April 11 everybody around the world wears pink to stop bullying. We do this because one day in a school in Nova Scotia in 2007 a student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt so two bystanders saw what was happening so they stopped the bullying. Then after they bought fifty pink shirts and handed them out. All the kids that got a shirt wore the pink shirts on the same day then all the bullying stopped. So now on the day of pink everybody wears something pink. So it could remind others that anybody could be bullied. So today most of our school is wearing pink to represent the International  Day of Pink.

Expert Project

My name is Robert and I made an Expert Project it is on the airbus A-380. I presented on the third of April. I chose the A-380 because I wanted to do an EP on an airliner so I thought about it for awhile and chose the biggest passenger aircraft. It took some time for me to complete. I was planning to present using all my information in a word document but then we took a screen shot and put all my info into smart note book soft wear. now I could use new tools I ended up using a reveal a gray shade that I could cover information and reveal information at my own speed. Some of the facts were our entire school could fit in an a-380 twice with seats left open. Our school could fit in there with 509 seats left open (counting lunch supervisors, kindergarden, and all staff). Did you know the out layer of the a-380 is covered in 3 layers of paint weighing around 500kg! Did you know that the wing of the a-380 will flex upward by 5 meters during take-off and that an a-380 lands/takes off every 8 minutes in the world?

Hope you liked reading my blog post.

Decorah Eagles

Ms. Wasney reminded me that the Decorah Eagles are back. Let's keep an eye on the three baby eaglets as they get ready to fly. The eagles' nest is just outside of Decorah in northeast Iowa.
