Word Work

Word work : in our class we do word work not just any type of word work a very amazing type of word work. We had to guess a gigantic word with these letters : e,e,i,i,n,r,s,t,v,w. Expert Projects

On Monday I did my EP presentation. I did it on the elements. I chose the elements because I wanted to know more about them. To present it I used power point. I was happy with how it turned out. There are three steps you have to do before you present. You have to research, type up your information, and then you get your presentation ready. There are lots of ways you can present your EP. You can use power point, prezi, and Haiku Deck. I already started a new EP project. I am doing Elephants. I can’t wait till I get to present it.

On Tuesday I presented my EP that is about Titanic! Though it did not have enough pictures, I had added a link for an awesome Titanic sinking CGI from the National Geographic website! I used Prezi to make the presentation! I’m soon going to make another EP on maybe the HMHS Britannic, The Yamato, UFOs, the US or Canadian Navy, and more. I’m so excited to make my next EP!

Expert Project: Golf

This week I presented my Expert Project on golf. I brought in my golf clubs golf shoes and all my equipment. I got most of my information from self-experience and a little bit from the internet. I loved using prezi because it was new, and I liked that it had a path so you could choose any picture to go first or last. I also liked presenting using prezi because it can move from one side of the page to the other in one move. I think everyone really liked my prezi and I loved presenting it and if I could I would present 10 different prezi’s throughout the year. Now I am doing an Expert project with Terry in my class about everything on Winnipeg. I like expert projects because you can choose what you do it on and no one is forcing you to do one subject. You can learn about stuff that you’re interested in.

Expert Project

My name is Robert and I made an Expert Project it is on the airbus A-380. I presented on the third of April. I chose the A-380 because I wanted to do an EP on an airliner so I thought about it for awhile and chose the biggest passenger aircraft. It took some time for me to complete. I was planning to present using all my information in a word document but then we took a screen shot and put all my info into smart note book soft wear. now I could use new tools I ended up using a reveal a gray shade that I could cover information and reveal information at my own speed. Some of the facts were our entire school could fit in an a-380 twice with seats left open. Our school could fit in there with 509 seats left open (counting lunch supervisors, kindergarden, and all staff). Did you know the out layer of the a-380 is covered in 3 layers of paint weighing around 500kg! Did you know that the wing of the a-380 will flex upward by 5 meters during take-off and that an a-380 lands/takes off every 8 minutes in the world?

Book Talk

Today I did a presentation during Daily 5. My presentation was on my diorama for a book. The book was called "Secrets in the Sand". Here is my speech,                                                                                   Hi, My name is Dana. This is a diorama based on the book "Secrets in the Sand". The author of this book is named Sharon Siamon. She is my favourite author. This amazing book is mostly about horses. But I would recommend it to anyone who likes adventure, drama, action, danger, boats, oceans, and most of all, horses. Many of you might be wondering why I chose this scene for my diorama. But this scene actually shows a lot. This is probabaly one of the most important parts of the story. As you can see in this scene, Andy goes searching for treasure in his skiff while Kelsie and Jen take care of the horses. (Casper and Zeke). That is what happens most of the time in the story. Andy is always searching for treasure because there is a legend about pirates. Aparently around 300 years ago pirates left a stash of treasure on Saddle Island. But Jen, Kelsie, and Aunt Maggie think it's just a myth. Can Andy proove them wrong? I hope I encouraged everyone to read this series. Thanks for listening.

Read All About It!

Last week we got little pockets to decorate then got little cards to put what book we are reading at this time and decorated those. Also we have a white board that we write recommendations on so other people would read that book. This is helpful for the class because then we could get ideas for different books to read during Daily 5. I'm reading City of Ember and Tyler from our class already read the series and said it was good. I also asked him where he got the books from so I could read the rest of the series.

Classroom seating

Last week the Manitoba Association of Multi-Age Educators (MAME) offered some after school workshops at HS Paul School. I attended the session presented by Lana Warren called: Warren's Wonderful Workshop: Fostering Literacy Independence in the Elementary Grades. Along with information about Daily 5, I was also able to get some ideas about classroom organization. Lana had her students arranged in two groups of 11-12 desks. Currently our classroom had six groups of four to five students and I was struggling with finding a meeting area to accommodate all of us. The next day I shared the idea of arranging our desks in two groups of 14 which would open up a centre area for class meetings. The students were eager to give it a try and so far it has been well received. The open area in the centre allows for all of us to meet comfortably .......some students may also say this space is perfect for a game of Twister during indoor recesses! :)





Daily 5 Appletters

Appletters^TM  is a game some students have been playing during Word Work in Daily 5. It is like dominoes, but you connect letters instead of dots.
