Special Olympics Expert Project

Today we had our first expert project presentation by Hailey! It was on Special Olympics. I never realized how many events there were. She had lots of ribbons, Wow! I wonder how many ribbons she will have in a couple years? Hailey did so well speaking she said lots of big words like competition, intellectual and rhythmic gymnastics. Did you know that: Special Olympics is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with an intellectual disability through active participation in sport. In total there are eighteen sports in Special Olympics. Hailey participates in hoop, ball, ribbon, and rope. This is the athlete’s oath “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Great job Hailey!

Hailey answered lots of questions.

BHS is 100 Years Old

Wow what an amazing 100th anniversary we had. I can’t believe our school is 100 years old. We had a HUGE anniversary. There were two choirs. There was a boys’ choir and girls’ choir. Both choirs sang 1 song. There was a BIG party after the performances were done.

There also were jobs some people had to do at a certain time. I got to be (greeters at the front door) it was funny because I was with Mikayla. For my job I had to hold the door for people when they were leaving. I would also say bye and then sometimes I would ask them a question like “did you like the performance?” I really like my job.

There was also a guy that came his name was Aaron Burnett and he was a musical entertainer.  There also was a photo booth.  Ms. Wasney’s sister Leah ran it. I went in two times. There was a display in the library with facts and pictures about our school. It was amazing to see how many people came. Thank you everyone who came to our 100th anniversary celebration!

Shhhhhhhh......We are Silent

On Thursday we participated in the we are silent campaign. At first we thought it was going to be kind of easy but we thought wrong. It was really hard to do. We tried to stay quiet for the day but we found it quite difficult. We bought some tags for $1 and if you look closely at the picture you will see shhhhhhh all over the sign in handwriting. It’s important for us to participate because some people don’t have a voice to speak up for themselves. We raised $601.94 for trying to make a school in Nicaragua. This is a great way to show other people that we care about trying to make sure everyone gets an education.

HOPPY Easter

I am busy being a student and learning so much at the MTS Awakening Possibilities technology conference. I'm excited to share my learning with you! It is neat to see that many people are visiting our blog and reading our posts and comments. Your words and ideas are reaching a huge audience that is interested in what we have to share. Great job everyone!

I hope you are working hard as always. Perhaps many of you are participating in the We are Silent campaign today to support a cause you believe in. Shhhhhh.

Have a wonderful Easter with your family and friends. What are you looking forward to most this Easter weekend? See you on Monday!

Padlet

This is a neat way to share ideas. It is great to see how kindness is being shown in our classroom. Remember to stand up for respect and to choose kindness.

T.W.A.S.

This week was nice to see all my friends in 5t back at school. We did art with are little buddies it was about how to make a circle to an oval. We first got a circle and then you would bring your markers and colour on the slippery side of the paper and do different sections with different colours. well I guess if you wanted to. My circle did end up turning into an oval well an oval with spaces in it. The trick is you make lines running from one end to another and then you cut on the line you made. Then after that you get construction paper that you space the pieces that you cut out. Then it creates an oval!

On Friday I started having another reading buddy. We go every morning started today. His name is Avery. It sounds like he is a pretty good hockey player. I do not know what position he plays but I know he plays for the river east royals. And he also plays spring hockey. He is a really good reader we were reader about cats and big cats. And it turned out that the big cat struck the deer and killed him!

This week on Wednesday we had day of PINK! Are school was filled with pink it was like a normal day but everyone was wearing the same colour. It was awesome!!!!! The day of pink shirts looked amazing. And the reason of day of pink was… One day in Nova Scotia at high a student wore pink to school he was teased bugged and was bullied.

On the day of pink we did an activity that’s called Stop/Talk/Walk. We did sort of like plays it was pretty fun. One of the activity’s was we got paired up with a partner and we did a play of someone getting bugged/teased. I was the one bugging the other person I was throwing paper balls and then Brody said stop assertively. Then we did the whole thing my partner was Nick and Andrew. This time I was throwing way more paper balls then last time but we did a good example and a bad example. The first time nick said stop assertively but Andrew was the bystander and him and me got into a fake fist fight because he said stop too aggressively. The good time nick said stop assertively then walked away and Andrew said Stop assertively. And that was are good example.

We Are Silent

The BHS Spin Club is running the We Are Silent campaign again this year. People all over the world are going to remain silent on April 17th to take a stand for people whose voices are not heard. For $1 students will be able to participate in a vow of silence by purchasing a We Are Silent tag. The money raised will go to our global initiative which is supporting education in Nicaragua. We hope you will join us in supporting this cause. Click here to find out more about this campaign and to learn about Malala's story.

Decorah Eagles

Have you ever had a closeup look at Decorah eagles? Well here's your chance. Ms Wasney informed me that the eagles are on Ustream so they can be viewed live. Three eaglets have been born so you can see this family of bald eagles grow and live each day. Check out the amazing footage.

Day of Pink

Today is the official Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink. Some of us ordered day of pink shirts. Others just wore pink.  Lots of our class wore Red Cross pink shirts. As a school we are standing together for respect and always choosing to be kind. It was really great to see all the people wearing pink and supporting the Day of Pink. My whole family ordered shirts. My mom wore hers to work today and my brother wore his to school today. I hope my dad wore his when he left early in the morning. We should always remember to treat others with kindness each day.

We learned a Stop/ Walk/Talk strategy to help students when we face problem behaviours. First you have to tell someone who is bothering you or others to stop. Second if they don't stop you walk away. Third you talk to an adult and tell them what's happening. We did some role playing to help us practice this strategy. I think it's really cool. It's three easy steps that you don't need to make a big fuss about. Remember to Stop/Walk/ Talk.
