Last Day Before Spring Break

Ready for the oven.
Whoa, look how they shrunk in size!

Today at school we got to make some real cool art! Ms. Wasney’s class came and we did it together. Here are instructions on how to make it. 1. Get a piece of this special paper that is like smooth on one side and rough on the other. You can get it at Micheals. 2. Practice your sketch on a piece of loose leaf. 3. Transfer or trace your final sketch in a thin tip sharpie. 4. Colour it in pencil crayon not MARKERS and colour it on the rough side! 5Put it in the oven and watch it shrink! This art was so cool!  Thanks Mrs. Wasney for the real cool idea for the art!

We got the puppies!
Today at the assembly we won the puppy blitzarama! The puppies are really cute their names are Boo, Sprite, Rocko and Jazz! Alyssa in our class won the naming contest, she named Sprite. We got the puppies because classes with no behaviour problems got their names put into a draw and we won the draw! We got them all day and later today we are going to figure out who will get the puppies on the first day coming back to school from spring break!
Michael & Allison in their Day of Pink Tees.

Happy spring break everyone! Don’t forget to wear your day of pink shirts on Wednesday the 9th! See you back on April 7th!

Tumbling Rally

Wow it came by so fast. We have been practicing and practicing our gymnastics routines. We have 2 routines to remember. Another thing that’s crazy is that the people that are in gymnastics have their tumbling rally tonight. I’m so scared I’m going to mess up and my family is going to be watching me. I asked my sister if she was going to video tape me with her tablet or camera. She said maybe. Okay let’s not get over whelmed about this tumbling rally. It’s going to be at a different school and it's going to be at 6:30
pm till 8:00. We also need to remember what skills we can do I can do… levels 1,2,1,1,2,1,2. There are 3 skills but there are also optional skills. I think I can do 1 optional skill and that is walking on your hands when you’re in a handstand. I’ll try it but if I can’t do it I will not show it off at the tumbling rally. I’m a little bit nervous and a lot excited. Anybody’s parents coming to watch you or your siblings tonight? Have fun gymnasts! Hope you will be perfect! Gymnastics rocks!

World Down Syndrome Day!

Great participation
Working with an extra chromosome
Today is World Down Syndrome Day!! Mrs. Lester came in today to help us learn more about Hailey and Down syndrome. Yesterday we did a little Down syndrome scavenger hunt in the computer lab. In the scavenger hunt there were questions like who discovered Down syndrome and what are the three types of Down syndrome. John Langdon Down discovered Down syndrome and the three types are mosiacism, trisomy 21 and translocation. The most common type of Down syndrome is trisomy 21. Did you know that March 21st is Down syndrome day because people with Down syndrome have three copies of the 21st chromosome that’s why it’s in the third month and the 21st day of the month.  We did a bunch of little experiments like to cut because it makes your muscles work a lot harder. For example try to cut a straight line with a huge pair of gloves on or try to walk with big boots, a huge coat with weights in the pocket. Is that hard?? Well that is a challenge that some people have to work with every day. We learned so much about Down syndrome. Hailey is such a great friend and classmate! Thanks Mrs. Lester for the presentation. Also thanks to Mr. Lester for letting Andrew borrow your stuff.

T.W.A.S.

This week at school we started our expert projects. That is where we have to research a thing like an animal or a car or something like that and become an expert. I am doing a platypus. My second idea was doing Jackie Chan the Chinese Karate king. I asked my Dad which one I should do and he said that I should do a platypus. So I did what he said I should do and also I was leaning more to the platypus.

Today we had a presentation where Hailey's Mom came to talk to us all about Down syndrome. At one point she did all of these little thingsshowing us that it is harder with Down syndrome because they have low muscle tone. She picked me to do this one little thing where I had to cut a piece of paper in half with work gloves on. It was CRAZY hard. But would you believe that today was world Down syndrome day.

This week we also learned about one simple machine. The one we learned all about was an inclined plane. It is longer but it is an easier walk or drive to get to your destination. I am excited to see when we work on the gears and the screws. But I remember in a Bill Nye video that he said simple machines are everywhere.

This week we also had an outdoor gym class. In the class we went snowshoeing. On the little kids side there is these huge snow ditches. Me Jerrett and some other kids went in there all the time. If I had to say it was hard or it was easy I would say that it was easy for me. There are some other kids that think that it is hard. I hope next out door gym we can go snow shoeing.

We Create Change

S.P.I.N. Club is currently running the We Create Change campaign. Classrooms have each received a schoolhouse to collect all kinds of coins. S.P.I.N. Club members have been going around to classrooms on We Care Wednesdays to empty the schoolhouses. This money will help the Free the Children organization to build 200 schools all over the world. Twenty dollars goes towards one brick......let's do our part to help out. Thanks for your support.

This week at school we finished our term 2 portfolios. It was hard to make them but we only had 6 tags. In my 6 tags I did math, s.s., art, science, health and word work. Than we had to do the handwriting sample. I am looking forward to showing my mom and dad how good my school work is.

In health we are making posters on the computer about safety.  Mine is about quad safety. Always have a good grip on your handlebars. Wear a helmet, goggles, gloves, boots and a jacket so you don’t get soaked in mud. I follow these tips to keep safe.

T.W.A.S.

This week at school we had a fun filled week!
One of the things we did was…  ART I love art. But this wasn’t your normal art we used… shaving cream. It was the first time I have used shaving cream it was fun. The art we were making was shamrock art. The steps to making the shamrock art that we have gone throw were… The first step was to put paint on top of the shaving cream on a pan then we had to take a Popsicle stick and mix the shaving cream and the paint together. The second step was to put a paper on the shaving cream mixed with paint and carefully pat it down. Then you peel the paper of the paint. After that you have to set the paper down on top of something and let it sit for about 4 mins. Then once it’s been about that time you can take a scraper and scrape down the paper. That’s all we have done but we are doing them today.

Also this week we had an Olympic Activity Day! It was really fun to go around the school and do the games that were set up for that day. We were all in ‘’Country’s’’ the Country I was in was Brazil. We also went around with our little buddies. My little buddies name is Gabbi.  One of my highlights from that day was having hot chocolate.
This week all of the girls are going to sing in a church on Friday. We have to wear all black. We are going to sing to be singing two songs. The songs I remember that we are singing are, a distant shore and the canoe song we are going to have to eat lunch at 11:00 am. We just got back and we won Silver
!

Also this week we got… Our new home reading. What we have to do this month+ is… We have to do a book recommendation and we have to list out top 3 favourite things about our book and we have to write a question we have about our book. I have not started mine yet.
The end is just the beginning.........

It was a day filled with great events and lots of excitement. With all the indoor recesses we have been experiencing, it was a super way to break up the week and to enjoy lots of activity. Students were teamed up with their little buddies and they did an amazing job of working together. Congratulations to everyone for the great sportsmanship and teamwork shown today. Thanks to Mrs. Rand for organizing this fantastic day.
