What a great first day of the school year! It was so exciting to meet the new students and to welcome them to our classroom. We were able to get acquainted and to learn new things about each other. It is going to be an amazing year of fun and learning! We hope you visit our blog to see what we are up to.
The school year has officially started. It is great to see familiar faces and to welcome new friends to our school. Before the students arrived on the first day I painted the bulletin boards in our classroom. I was really pleased with how well they turned out. The colours sure brighten up the room. We can't wait to fill the boards with great work of the talented students in room 30!
Wow, I can't believe the school year is over. This was "year one" of blogging and I have to say it has been a terrific experience. When I started this blog I wasn't sure I had anything to say or to share....the students helped me to get over that quickly. My class of amazing individuals were eager to write posts about our learning adventures which, for me, was the most exciting part. Thanks to everyone for contributing to the blog and to our visitors for taking time to see what we have been up to. Have a safe, fun-filled summer!
Love, Mrs. T :)
This week at school we had Mrs. Kulyk do a special art project with us to go with our science unit. We called it motion and action art. We started with a paper drawing ovals to loosen up our hands. We used these ovals to make gesture drawings. After we started with a peice of wire, then we shaped it to what we wanted the figures position to be. After we shaped it we put on tin foil, tape and plasticine to give it a bigger body. On the same day we put paris craft on it. We let it harden until Friday and we painted in the morning. I built a lacrosse goalie because that is what I am. I think everyone had lots of fun because I know I did. I would do it again in a heart beat. Enjoy the video of our project. - By Ethan
For Fathers Day we made a gift on comic life. It had information about, reasons why my Dad is great, cool facts about my Dad, and things my Dad has taught me. We also used water colour makers on some special paper then once we were done making a cool desine on the card we took a wet paint brush and would pull on one of the lines and it would make it look like the colour is spreading across the paper. I think that this will be the best Fathers Day for every Father in the world.
Hi our names are Jessica and Abby. We did an expert project on China. We learnt a lot on China doing this project. Like did you know there are 1 billion people living in China? Every year Chinas population grows by 17 million people. That’s half of Canada! We had a diorama of the Great Wall of China. Interesting fact on The Great Wall of China is it is the only thing that can be seen from the moon. We handed out fortune cookies. Fortune cookies are thought to be made in China because of the fact they are served in Americanized Chinese restaurants. Fortune cookies are actually made in Japan! We also talked about Chinese silk production. Did you know that silk is made from silk worm cocoons? I hoped you learnt lots about China! - By Jessica and Abby
This week at school I did science. It was very fun because we got to build and make a marble go down a track. My group’s designs name is The Rolling Cheeseburger. I got to come up with our name. Our project goes down with a lot of speed and then it goes strait and goes into a funnel and does a couple swirls and goes to a controlled stop like our rubric tells us to. Our project has linear and rotational motion. It shows potential and kinetic energy. The force is balanced at the start and then it is unbalanced as the marble goes down the track. We used cardboard, plastic and paper to make the track. All the supplies were recyclable. The rubric also tells us to make it turn and change speed. It was fun to build this design. Ours worked 10 out of 10 times!
Today we had a session with our little buddies. We brought in board games to play. Some people played cards, there were also games like Candyland, Sorry, Guess Who, Trouble, and many more. Some people were introduced to games they had never played before, and others played games that they haven't played for a while. It was fantastic! I think evryone enjoyed it. Our little buddies had a great time and so did we.

Today (June 1st) Our class and Ms. Dodds class had a celebration. This was to congratulate everyone for graduating the D.A.R.E program. We started the celebration by having Constable Dave talk about the program and about our two grade 5 classes. After he finished Mrs. Ilchena talked. Then Jada and I got to read our reports out loud to the parents and the classes. When we were done the audience aplauded and we got bag with a shirt, sunglasses, a hat, and a necklace. We also got a bunch of little papers and stickers. Once we got our gifts Constable Dave gave everyone a graduation certificate. Then all of us got cake, cookies, juice. After this program the most important thing that I have learned is to take care of my body. I honestly don't know why anyone would want to put things like drugs, tobacco, or alcohol in their body when it causes such terrible effects. I am so glad that I had the chance to be in such a fantastic program!
On Wednesday they announced that if you are under the age of 18 you must wear a bike helmet. So Mrs.Tresoor told the class and showed us this Winnipeg free press article. Check it outhere.Mrs.Tresoor said to write a persuasive paragraph about how you feelabout this new law. The paragraph had to have a strong topic sentence, supporting details to convince the reader that it should or should not be a law and a concluding sentence. I feel people should wear their bicycle helmets because when you damage your brain it never heals. You can’t stop an accident so you can help yourself get less hurt by wearing a helmet.Helmets are very important to wear. It doesn’t matter if people think it is not cool. When some people hear a story about someone who got hurt on a bicycle and was not wearing a helmet they think it won’t happen to them but it could. My message to you all is wear your helmets because you don’t know what is going to happen.
