TWAS

We had little buddies. It was awesome. I liked playing. We played this math game where we had to get to one hundred. I want to do it again. Brody`s buddy won two times. My buddy was away.

We also had print making. I liked it. We had print making with Mrs. Kulyk. We had to draw animals. Since I was Sabe I had to draw one then we had to trace it. I liked mine. I would do it again.

We had reading. I read this book called Santa Paws. I like reading the book because it is about this dog that lost his family. In the end he saved a boy from drowning. And a girl who lost her wallet and saved people from a burning house.  You should read it.

We had gym. We played soccer baseball. We had to kick the ball. We also had to run really fast. Jordan ran so fast he got a 3 home runs.  It was cool watching him run around three times.

Print Making

Today we did print making with an artist, Mrs. Kulyk. It was of our animal from our Pourquoi tale.  I did a killer whale, Brooke did a porcupine. Brooke’s title is how the porcupine got its quills and mine was how the killer whale got its white markings. Maybe you can make one too. These are the things you need: 1 piece of square wood, black, red, silver or gold paint, sandpaper, paper, wooden tool, a Styrofoam square that fits the wood, paint roller and a sharpie. These are the steps to make it:
1.    Sand the edges of the wood
2.    Paint your wood either silver or black
3.    Draw your animal on the square piece of paper
4.    Make an outline around your animal
5.    Tape it to the Styrofoam
6.    Go over your animal hard but don’t go through the Styrofoam
7.      Take the tape off and your picture off
8.     Use the wooden tool and go over the lines one more time
9.    Cut it out around your outline that you made around your animal
10.           Get some paint (black, red, silver or gold) on the roller and paint it on your animal
11.           Take your animal and place it face down on the wood
12.           Press it down for 5 seconds then take it off
13.           Now let it dry for about 5 to 7 minutes
14.           Do some touch-ups with the sharpie and sign it

They turned out great! They will be up on the school bulletin board permanently. Come down to see them later this  year.

T.W.A.S.

This week at school was tremendous. Who knew writing a story could be so fun? My first topic is Pourquoi tales. I wrote about how the Atlantic Puffin got its bright orange beak. Of course Puffin was the main character the two other minor characters were Narwhal and Lobster. Lobster is Puffins enemy they are both the most deadly animals on the coast. Narwhal is Puffin’s best friend. Puffin thinks he is the greatest ever and Narwhal is lucky to have him as a friend, Puffin thinks he is the big Blueberry pie and Narwhal is the tiny apple pie. Puffin needs to get his head set straight so one night Puffin is complaining that Lobster is saying mean things to him so Narwhal sets him straight but Puffin denies and denies and gives Narwhal a bucket of insults. That night when narwhal swims away Lobster and Narwhal sort of have a secret meeting and plan what is coming up after the break.

In the morning Narwhal spots Puffin and is not happy to see him but Narwhal apologizes strangely and says to meet him by the big Oak tree Puffin says finally you have come to your senses and know that I am special and you are average Narwhal says okay whatever you say. That day Puffin was at the big oak tree and now one was there and Puffin wondered how Narwhal would get on land but then he saw Lobster standing right in front of the big oak tree so Puffin sprints at Lobster. Lobster quickly dodges and Puffin runs write into the big oak tree Puffins head is stuck but pulls it out and has a beak well a wooden beak. Lobster quickly scurry’s into the water like a bolt Puffin was sitting there when he saw a patch of bright orange berries he has not eaten in days he eats lots of them and they are making him drowsy so he falls asleep in a pile of berries when he woke up he realized the berries had stained his wooden beak and now it was bright orange. And to this day that is why Puffins have bright orange beaks.

This week we also had a special gym for not having any behaviour incidents. We played bingo dodgeball the whole time so it was a great change from gymnastics. That is my favourite thing to do in gym. It was are class and miss. Wasneys so it was very full in the gym some girls just stood at the back and waited basically till it was over. I do not get why they do not like dodgeball it is the most fun game in the books. I don’t mind Gymnastics one reason I do not like it is because it is not a game for me but at least I still try. I still know how to do it I’m just not very skilled or whatever you want to call it.

We also had crochet club there was only two people there one day I would of gone but I forgot to bring my wool. I’m very good at crocheting hah just kidding I could not crochet if it came up and bit me. But I will try to learn somehow some way. Nick is a pro at this kind of stuff like knitting or crocheting. The kid is a natural like when you have never done something in your life and you do it and you get it right of the bat that is when you know you are a natural. It looks pretty tough I sometimes go down to the library to watch Nick he has crazy hands it’s like you’re watching a machine.

Day of Pink T-Shirts

The Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink is being held on April 9, 2014. This event is about taking a stand against bullying behaviour. The Day of Pink originated in Nova Scotia in 2007. Two students heard that a boy in their school had been picked on for wearing a pink shirt to school. The students decided to take a stand against this behaviour by encouraging their classmates to wear pink. The response was overwhelming. Since then other provinces have held their own Pink Day.

Bird's Hill School will be recognizing Day of Pink on Wednesday, April 9. This year staff, students and families are able to purchase t-shirts for $5.00. Order forms are due January 28th. Thanks for organizing this Ms Wasney. What a great way to show that we all stand for respect!

IBL Weather Projects

In November we started choosing and researching our IBL projects. We used both books and the internet to research our topic. We had to choose an extreme weather condition. You could choose floods, hurricanes, thunderstorms, tsunamis, droughts, tornadoes, lightning and others.

Ryan chose to do tsunamis and Brody chose to do hurricanes. You could also choose how you wanted to present it. The options we could use were Smore, Prezi, Powerpoint, Comic Life, or Symwriter. Lots of people chose to do Prezi. For our research booklets we had to find information for an Introduction, Devastation, Safety Plan, Sustainability, Fascinating Facts and Wonders.

We presented our projects in the computer lab in the beginning of January. It was neat because we set up our project and then left it for others to come and look at. Then we got to go around and look at everyone else’s projects. We had to leave a compliment about their project before we left to watch another one. We also had to take jot notes about each project we viewed.

Brody researched Hurricanes and he did a Prezi. Ryan studied Tsunamis for the IBL project and presented it on Comic Life.
This was a fun project and we learned a lot! Thanks Mrs. Dent Scarcello for all you help.
